Stitchy update

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 5, 2015, 2:54 PM

hi guys!

Just to let you know that I made a big update about my cross stitch updates.
You can see them on my website: www.Songthread.com

Happy Easter!

Hi deviants!

First of all I want to wish you all happy holidays on whatever you are celebrating, or even if you aren't celebrating anything and just enjoying the winter break.

Personally I know it has been a bit quiet from my side since September, but for a reason! I'm working a fulltime job as a teacher! And not even a regular teacher, I do all of the creative parts of the school like arts, drama and music! This also means working towards the end of the school year to present a show. So I am super busy but super creative at the same time!

Luckily I do find some time to stitch and make stuff so there are some updates sometimes, although I can't really predict them. I can give you a sneak peak of a pattern that's almost getting there and will probably appear on etsy in (hopefully) a few days.

About 2014

I've made some new years resolutions for this year (I do it every year). I try to keep them realistic but want to hope to achieve some greater goal and transcend some of my lesser qualities in life. So for your amusement I've dug them up and will comment on how well I did on them or even if I completely forgot about them!

1. translating my posts and website into dutch
er uhm euh, so as you can see in the top left corner, I am a Belgian artist. This means English isn't my native language, Dutch is. I can also write and speak French to have a decent conversation but I'm not going that far in my last years resolution. This one was a bit of a doubt to me. Would this work? Will Dutch people read my posts more if I translate them. I have translated most of them so it's a big yes on succeeding (for me it is) but I don't think it will pull more people to my page. So I think I'll just put some language flags next to my "contact" page for the people who are interested to speak to me in Dutch (or French!)
2. make a weekly or bi-weekly update on my FB or other social media.
I did not make this one, I didn't even get the once a month update I think (well not in art updates) as I got a serious job offer. I did however get to update at least once a month with random stuff. I hope people are interested in my random things I do (you can check it here: www.facebook.com/pages/Song-Th…
I will try to keep up FB and tumblr as these are the most interesting social media to me. I don't know about twitter, I only get these hipster replies...
3. Artwise: try to make a 50 -50 rate of original and fanart items.
For this year I got there! I made a lot of original art which I could use again on my bags and made more original art than fanart (that's even better!) Yay. I feel that fanart is important to get that creativity flowing, and all of us in the underbelly of DA know it's the most effective way to be found. So the counter for this year will be to maintain that 50-50 minimum.
4. socialize more with craft related people.
This one is a yes and a no. I have my regular craft people who I talk with and they are awesome! I also went ahead and entered some cross stitch FB groups. I do read most of their posts and learned about confetti stitching, frogging and other terms I didn't know before. (I did them but didn't know the cool names for them. I didn't get to know craft people more personal. I think with the first step I took I did it already good enough. I don't think a knitting cafe is something for me though. Not yet.
5. try to at least change the features category below once a month.
That's a no. As it's part of the journal skin and not the ready made text box for the journal I tended to "forget" this part. So now I am just blatantly making some publicity for my free stuff! Check below if you like free stuff!!!!

now on to the resolutions this year

2015 New year resolutions
1. Keeping my social media alive.
I know this is vague, so what it means is, try to post art when I find the time next to my job. And find out about my other shenanigans I do (mostly crafts projects with my students) So you know what you're in for when you follow my tumblr and FB :) I am a bit of a hermit when it comes to social media and showing stuff about myself. that's why you'll mostly see pictures of my stuff instead of me. www.facebook.com/pages/Song-Th… and www.tumblr.com/blog/songthread

2. artwise: try to make a 50-50 rate of original and fanart
This one points itself out, it's not that I managed it for one year that I shouldn't continue with this good line of work.

3. artwise: go back to drawing more, any medium or type counts.
Working with kids and getting a lot of creativity from them has made me draw more in the past few months. I want to continue it, because you don't practise drawing lines that much when you are only sewing and cross stitching. Designing pixel art for cross stitch and drawing when I find the time (pearl needs more art, she deserves it!) should make this possible.

4. Keep up the rising stats of the previous years
Of course you can't see it but slowly over the past years my etsy shop has been going up in all of the stats (views, favs, sales). Even though I won't have as much time as I did up to august I want to keep this positive trend up.

5. maintain my healthy lifestyle
In the past year I've also lost some weight (1 dress size) due to changing my eating habits. Munching less, eating more veggies, less meat, more fish, smaller portions, only drink light sodas and water. It wasn't easy to maintain it with my full time job since September but somehow I stabilized my weight during those months. I hope by better prep and experience will help make it go down a bit more. Of course it has to stay healthy :)

the winner! - one year premium membership

Hi deviants!

EDIT

The winner is known! it's

fella Gift (Party) :iconangelandchangeling: #angelandchangeling fella Gift (Party)

She completed all of the things I asked and got pulled from random.org. Here's the proof:

Winner Giveaway by SongThread

Congrats and until next year!

/EDIT

Every year I give my "buy one get one" one year premium membership for someone I know but no one is in need of a premium membership this year!
So that means I'll be giving it away to someone who watches (and hopefully likes) this account!

Now on to the giveaway!

What do you have to do?

1. Like my FB here: link

2. Watch me on DA :)

3. Comment on this journal with a link to your FB page (so I can verify that you liked me if you win)

4. Fav this journal, as this is the best way for me to randomly choose a winner.

On January 4th 2015 on 8 pm Belgian time (that's the same as Paris and Berlin, NOT LONDON) this giveway will end.

I will use random.org to choose a number for me and who ever is that number on the favs list be the winner as long as they have completed the above steps. If they have not then I will choose another random number until I get someone that did complete all the steps.

I hope the rules are clear and that you all get to kick start the year with a lot of creativity!

Greetings,

Nathalie

Changing identity to Song Thread!

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 27, 2014, 1:22 PM

Nederlands beneden :bademoticon:

Hello dear followers!
It's been a while since I did a more personal update, since I perceive journals as a medium you should use sparingly and in a good manner.
I want to announce that I'll be changing names, online identity as you will.
For over 10 years (a decade omg!) I've kept my dear feathersofanangel that I adapted from an early fallenangel handle when I was 14ish to my 16th birthday. I then kept using my feathersofanangel handle everywhere on the net. Eventually I felt that it was not such a sticky name that really sticks in your mind. So I started looking for a new name and a way to make myself more visible on the net.
Thanks to friends and family who went over the names and of course financial ideas of keeping a business a new name was born:

Party time Song ThreadParty time

I hope that all of you will keep following and supporting me in this adventure with my name.

----------------------------

Dag beste volgers!

Party time Song ThreadParty time

Ik hoop dat jullie mee de verhuis op de verschillende media meemaken en ik jullie op FACTS blijf tegenkomen.

swamped with work

Journal Entry: Wed May 21, 2014, 1:50 AM

Hi dear fellow deviants.

It's been a while, I'm not a person known to write about her feelings on the internets but I'll try to make a habit to write about my crafting and work related ventures.
It's finals season, and as a teacher you're more stressed and swamped than your pupils. (well that's my feeling as a first time teacher) Making tests, making mockup test to feel assured that your students are prepared, correcting said tests so they have something to study.

As I am working at an elemetary school on a music project the gym teacher got ill. she has a 2 week leave. As the principal liked my working method in the class, she asked me to give music to all the classes instead of the gym hour they normally have until the gym teacher gets back.
This leaves me with already a lot of worked swamped with more a lot of work :p, luckily it will end in about two weeks.

My brain has not stopped thinking about projects because work stress = overdose of creativity. Luckily over the years I learned to write down ideas for future reference.

what am I working on?
well, a new tote design and a coin purse design, hopefully I find the time to finetune the designs shortly!

see you soon,

Nathalie

FACTS 2013 Pre-order

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 9, 2013, 2:23 AM

Hello dear followers!

It is that special time of the year in Belgium again where fans of almost every series and movies gather at Ghent Expo!
I will be there again in the artist alley. And like every year I will open a pre-order for the people who have money to spend now and want to be sure to come out of FACTS holding at least something in their hands for this commemorative day.

How does this work you say? It is quite simple!
:bulletpurple: You will see the items in this journal that are for pre-order, or you decide to custom order something!
Good, keep that thought.
:bulletpurple: Copy my e-mail address and the understanding mini-form: info@feathersofanangel.net into your e-mail client's message. Tell me in this e-mail what you want!

item: (please add if you want something modified)
how many of these items:
Name of pick up person (I will also ask for your e-mail address you corresponded with):
address  (this is in case you can't show up at FACTS):
phone number: (I'm not asking for a date, this is if your e-mail decides to toss me into the spam bin)

:bulletpurple: I will reply with the correct amount (if you buy a lot I might give you a discount or a surprise with your order) and repeat the info of the person ordering to make sure everything is correct. This way I can ask information when you come for the pickup and know it's the right package for the right person.
:bulletpurple: If you don't show up, I can still send your order to you but I will ask for shipping costs.
:bulletpurple: Payment, it will only happen through Paypal and European bank transfer. I have no other means of accepting other forms of payment yet.

THE ORDER LIST
1. 1 red star trek bag + 1 blue star trek bag
2. 1 red star trek bag

THE STUFF

Star Trek Totes: 16 euros.
Star Trek Tote bags by SongThread Star Trek Tote by SongThread Star Trek Tote by SongThread Star Trek Tote by SongThread Star Trek Tote by SongThread Star Trek Tote by SongThread Star Trek Tote by SongThread
Specify the color!
Only with the pre-order can you ask for another star trek logo. The pre-made bags at FACTS will all have the same logo as shown above.
Remember, all these bags have been designed, made and tested by me. A lot of time and love goes into these bags and they are quite unique!

Chewbacca furry totes: 25 euros.

Chewbacca Tote Bag by SongThread

These are limited to only six on FACTS. If you want to be sure, pre-order! Only then are you sure you have one.
This bag has an inner bag in the same color as the fur. You have a neat inside and a furry outside! This bag has been made with lots of time and love, no animals were hurt to make this bag. No wookies either.

Edit:
So someone asked if I did something crafty or going more into detail, of course!!!
Actually I did a lot of research to craft stores when I was there and I found some that I'm very eager to share with you guys. I traveled to different cities so I tried to snoop out the different shops that where possible to find. Specific cross stitch where alas not to be found.

This awesome blogger gave some great tips for shops and general items to buy when in Japan. This is a Tokyo shopping guide.
This is a blog with different fabric/craft shops in different cities. Very handy when you don't do Tokyo but travel around.
Sadly I didn't get to see the craft stores in shinjuku because this lenghty guide with handy map really looks good. Please take a map with you when looking for a certain shop in Japan! The Japanese sometimes don't even find the shop they are looking for!
Same blogger as above but with an individual guide for nippori, textile town. MUST VISIT!
And the last one, although this is more a what to see than what to really shop.

I hope this is informative for you guys!

Dear viewers,

It has been a while since you heard from me, but with good reason!
With my boyfriend we took a two week trip to Japan. This trip was very educational, some stereotypes about Japan have been negated and others were true.
This country has a lot to offer for tourists outside the different kinds of food and shopping, of which there was a lot!
Especially the visits to temples and palaces were rewarding, as shoguns and priests built some of the most interesting buildings and sometimes on the most fascinating places. Sadly most of the original buildings burned down and got replaced by replicas (sometimes not even on the correct scale!), which was a bit of a sad thing to me. It takes away the authenticity. Some interesting spots to visit:
Nara, close to Kyoto this park has a lot of deers. You can buy biscuits to feed them. The deer know of this so watch out, they can be  very pushy and that's not fun when they have antlers. But, the park is not only to see the animals. It has some beautiful temple complexes and a very nice walking course.
Inari, this location is also close to Kyoto. The path is littered with bright red/orange Toris, their presence gives a somewhat magical atmosphere during the walk. We visited the park at dusk, something the writers of the lonely Planet thought to be creepy... It's actually quite cozy.

As most travel guides will tell you that Tokyo is THE place to be, I do not agree. We Visited many cities like Osaka, Kyoto, Himeji and Hiroshima before ending our journey in Tokyo. The other cities where nicer and had much more interesting places to visit. The people where more polite and tried to help you even if they didn't speak English or knew the correct answer. In Tokyo the "Lonely Planet" guide says you HAVE to visit the east palace garden of the Imperial palace. It was very disappointing, it was no more than a very big stretch of gravel and golf course grass with trees on it. We didn't even see an actual palace.

The one thing that surprised me the most where the shopping arcades. Every town has them. As the Japanese shun the sun they spend their time mainly shopping. What better way than to spend it in an arcade with it's own roof? You really have to see it to believe it and it really boggled my mind. The good thing about it is that I got to visit the mythical fabric town in Tokyo, Nippori. I bought some of the most awesome fabrics ever! Sadly I had to stop too soon, not because of the price but because of the weight limit of my suitcase. Sadly most shops do not cater outside of Japan which is quite a shame!

I will be working on some cross stitch patterns and new designs with these fabrics. You can expect to see some on FACTS.

Bye!

Hi there dear fellow DA'rs.

today is my birthday and people congratulated me! all hail to social media and their birthday notification system.
Thanks to everybody for their kind wishes. I am becoming a quarter century of age!

So, why not a lot of pictures or updates? well my life has been pretty busy, to the point that I am working on intern stuff up to 2 o' clock in the evening. I do post something every Tuesday on Facebook, although it's personal projects at the moment.

I hope everything calms down at the beginning of March.

See you!

So I have some "goals" that I want to do or achieve in 2013 and NO i'm not calling them resolutions or whatever.
That's for people who think they will do the things they *ahum* "pledge" every year. Like buying a pass to the gym but eventually never going. and losing x weight. so no. I have some simple and reasonable goals in mind.

1. translating my posts and website into dutch
Because I go to local art markets I get a lot of people who are interested in my stuff but shy away because the English language is not for all. I get that. I have already done this for most of my etsy posts. www.feathersofanangel.etsy.com

2. make a weekly or bi-weekly update on my FB or other social media.
I've done this very well the last year. personally I think I could do it a bit better for DA and my website who have been a bit neglected. I think my watchers (YOU) might find my wips and social updates interesting too without following me on the mass popular social medias liek twitter and le FB.

3. Artwise: try to make a 50 -50 rate of original and fanart items.
why, you ask? you like the pony stuff I make and other fanart? yes, that's true and I like them too. BUT, more and more conventions are banning craft related fanart. I want to be recognized for my original arts and techniques.

4. socialize more with craft related people.
Lately I've been feeling it difficult to relate to people I know about crafts in general. Most of them draw and don't really do crafts. So it's hard to ask their advice about patterns and craft specific stuff. Fortunately I've got to know a crafting friend at random now and things have been awesome. Someone who understands what it is to go to a convention with crafts and not just printable art. I think by posting a journal more often and asking you guys' opinion might be a good beginning. Also being more active socially in groups instead of just posting my stuff and done might be a big help.

5. try to at least change the features category below once a month.
I know this sounds like an old fashioned new years resolution and I guess it is. This might be the least likely to survive the year.

Thank you for reading my journals, taking your time to watch my stuff and be my watcher in general.
I hope we will meet a great 2013!

Je vindt mijn my little pony spullen en andere fanart reuze leuk?

The Facts of F.A.C.T.S.2012

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 22, 2012, 8:24 AM

Hey guys and gals!

I had tons of fun at FACTS! Lot's of nice people and artists. Lots of stuff!
I sold out my companion cube pillows again this year. I really loved it people showing support and telling me how nice my items and even my hair looked. I had the fun idea of making a bun on my hair with a ball of yarn instead of my hair and put a crochet pen through it for an extra nice accent. Lots of people asked me how I did it so I might do a small tutorial on them.
Hopefully lot's of pictures soon because my boyfriend was there to guard my table and take pictures.

Post-FACTS sale:
check out my :iconetsyplz: shop: www.feathersofanangel.etsy.com
I'm fasing out the current pony pendants, I'm changing the technique a littlebit. So the old ones are now cheaper. Check them out!

Hi guys!

First of all, I was reading :iconendling:'s interview about his art and stuff. (fav.me/d5fz27d)

This made me realise, although I am a small grub in the mighty big bucket called DA, I managed to get some "followers".
People, who +fav almost every deviation I send in and are enthusiastic about it, even so to comment!

I want you to know that this really makes me happy, it warms my hearth. I hope that, together with you, I can build up my name (and fame) to reach even more deviants who might like my works.

:bulletpurple:Fanart vs Original
I was wondering if people would like to see more original work from me?
I know most of you watch me because of my pony themed pendants or other fan art work. I know this gets me watchers but I do like to create original stuff. I do fanart because I love the series. That's why I put love and magic into it.

I want to be original, but not the boring-etsian-hipster-seen-it-all-original, you know, the boring A-line pencil skirt with the same old dotted pattern, or the same old bound book with oh-so-important-recycled-bio-pages.

Then sometimes I'm wondering, are these items: musical journal by SongThread Pen roll Mad Modesty by SongThread and Hipstar Pendant by SongThread new and refreshing for you. Would you go like, "hey, that's new to me, I like it!" or be like, no, I've seen that sh*t plenty of times on etsy.
I know standing out is not easy in a very creative community.
I just wanted to know what my silent but very appreciative watchers think.

good evening.

20 years Japanese Garden

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 10, 2012, 4:56 AM

Hi guys,

First of all, I'M BACK!

I had a practical exam at the end of August that had a preparation of 10 days, I had to pack up my crafting gear not to get tempted :(

For the TLDR people, here are the PICTURES: www.feathersofanangel.net/Japa…
or visit my FB.

But now I'm back. The first update are pictures of this Saturday.
There was a workshop on how to draw anime and :iconbluemonika: was asked to do it. She didn't want to go alone so :iconmadmodesty:, :icontikopets: and I agreed to go with her.
There was an extra table for our merchandise so I handled it while the other 3 artists gave the workshop on how to draw anime.

It was super fun and of course a bit tiring. I got a lot of nice comments on my items and some people even wanted me on future handmade markets! (yay)

Back from vacation!

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 22, 2012, 6:03 AM

hi guys!

I'm back from vacation, Germany was this year's destination.
We (me and the boyfriend) had some unfortunate uhm problems on our roadtrip.
On the second day we had to find a hospital (or krankenhaus) because my boyfriend bumped his head on a medieval stone in a wall around the town of Rothenburg ob den Taub. He had slightly concussed his own head. But after a quick check up and a few hours of rest in the hospital he could leave. We stayed an extra day.
After this we followed the Romantische Strasse to Augsburg (towards the south of Germany) Sadly enough we didn't plan a good hotel and the "umweltplakette" up front and ended up in a VERY bad Etap hotel. Because of the petroleum fumes we didn't catch a very good night sleep and left very early in the morning to our next destination, Neuschwanstein.
Yay! The mythical castle that inspired the disney castle. It exceeded my every expectation and was really worth the visit. Afterwards we noticed that this medieval looking castle was actually build in the same time period as Art Nouveau! This was the reason the castle was so pretty, instead of the damp and gloomy classic medieval castles! Sadly the outside of the castle was being renovated and couldn't make a nice picture of it.
The second day in Neuschwanstein we went for a cartrip adventure. My boyfriend really wanted to venture the Stelvio Pass after seeing the episode of Top Gear. Sadly, we don't have a super car nor a racing car but a very cute little citroen car with only 60 horse power. This is the sort of car that barely gets up the hill in second gear. But, the long (and a bit dangerous) trip was worth it, the sight on the top of the stelvio pass was amazing!
The next day we left for Stuttgart but held a quick stop in Munchen. Yet again the "umweltplakette" was being a problem, luckily we weren't there for the centre of muchen (which you can't enter without the sticker) but for the BMW museum located just outside its centre. The museum was okay, so was the coffee and cake in the museums' cafe. although they weren't THAT friendly either. Then it was onwarts to Stuttgart!
There we had yet again problems with the "umweltplakette" Because we didn't really know how to get there and it was all regulated in a really German way, we got, yet again, a hotel at the border of this zone. The hotel was terrible, although it was praised in the michelin guide it was clearly in a state of decay. Very old enterior, smoking inside the building and the fact the proprietor couldn't maintain the building anymore. This was still "okay" to stay and leave the next day BUT, the worst was the Frustuck (breakfast)...
In Germany you get a lot with your breakfast, really nice actually but here there where multiple problems:
- bad coffee,
- some of the prepackaged bread and biscuits where already over their freshness dates.
- I found an opened container of cheese in the pile of of prepackaged butter and cheese
- the meat on the platter with assorted bread toppings was already turning a darker color...
- And the worst: I found an ANT in my sandwich. It was a white sandwich and it had something with 6 paws baked into it. The woman at the desk (who looked like she just wanted money and not a good experience for their guests) denied it and came up to the table forcing me to take another sandwich. ugh.
The next morning we bought the "umweltplakette" and drove happily around the giant umweltzone in Stuttgart. The porche museum and the Mercedes Museum where on the menu today. The porche museum was okay and of small/medium size. The Mercedes museum is a must! Even for non-car enthousiasts, it has 8 floors, you go up the highest floor with a very fancy elevator and spiral down through the museum. The free audio guide is really encouraged as lots of the videos in the museum can only be heard through the guide.
The second hotel was, okay, except for yelling at some germans at 2 a.m. to shut their drunk sses because we had 600 km to drive home the next day.
And then we where back in Brussels, Laundry time :)

And now getting my butt back into crafting mode.

free stuff, from me! Check it out.

musical update, llamas and exam period

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 3, 2012, 3:26 AM

hi guys!

Since Deviantart doesn't support music uploads,(they either have to be simple flash animations or full fledged movies)
So I'm just linking it here:

www.facebook.com/Feathersofana…

Hey guys, this time a music related update! Since I don't have the time for a craft related one. Some of you might know already that I am studying classical music. Because my little muse for writing my own ideas got squashed a few times at my school by teachers because it was not "serious" enough and didn't want to spend their time on it. Only if I wrote atonal music they would take it serious enough as a "composition". After some years of struggle because writing my own music wasn't one of my courses I came to some conclusions in regards of MY music and what I'm going to to with it. So here was an idea I had after I saw the fabulous little space card Mad Modesty made. She was even kind enough to lend me the drawing to put it as a cover on my music. If you want to see the actual card with the funny caption she put on it you can see it here: www.etsy.com/listing/99213424/…
Music made by me with sibelius 7

The Llama count is now about 1500 llama's given. That's a lot! and people keep +faving my deviation :o

I'm still in my exam period (I don't know how people call it in correct English). I'll be kind of out of the loop for regular art updates until at least 20th of June. A sporadic Tuesday's update might happen though.

I was wondering, if you guys ever got the chance to visit me on a conference, what would you expect to be on my table? Or what would you commission from me if you had a fund of money at your disposal to do so. Let me know in a comment below please!

See you soon!
